Activities for the Month of March 2022
  • GNKCW students bagged prizes in Inter-college Hunar 2022 competition

    The students of our college brought laurels by clinching numerous prizes in the Inter-College Hunar competition organized by Khalsa Institute of Management and Technology (KIMT), Civil Lines, Ludhiana on March 30, 2022.

  • The Staff Welfare society of the college organized a lunch get-together to celebrate the birthdays of the teachers for the months of February and March. Token of love was given to the college teachers, Ms. Cheshta Vohra, Dr. Nidhi, Ms. Inderjeet Kaur, Ms. Arpuneet Kaur, Ms. Shefali Arora, Ms. Gurarpan Kaur, Ms. Jaspreet Kaur, Ms. Rachna Kanojia, Ms. Jaswinder Kaur, Ms. Shalini, Ms. Kritika Gupta, Mrs. Seema Dua, and Ms. Sukhjit Kaur. Token of affection was given to Ms. Manju, a member of the non-teaching staff. The coordinators of the Staff Welfare Society, Mrs. Punpreet Kaur, and Dr. Madhu Dhawan organized the celebration. Madam Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon congratulated the members of the staff on their birthday and wished them success in all their endeavors.(March 30, 2022)
  • An Educational trip was organized by the college  to the historical place, Sri Bhaini Sahib and deer Park at Neelon canal, Ludhiana. Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, Head, Department of Hindi and Mrs. Inderjeet Kaur, Department of Punjabi accompanied the students on this visit.

  • The Water Management Team (SAP Committee) of the college under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India ensures that clean and safe drinking water is available in the college. The team also safeguards that not a single drop of water is wasted. Under its regular maintenance drive, the faulty drinking water filter of the water cooler in the Commerce Department of the college was repaired by changing the filter assembly under the Annual Maintenance Contract on March 29, 2022.
  • An exhibition-cum-sale for traditional suits of Jaipur, Rajasthan was set up on campus. During the event, Dr. Shikha Bajaj, Assistant Professor in Fashion Designing, explained that these Rajasthani fabrics have been designed using block printing, and tie and dye techniques. (March 29, 2022)
  • A workshop  on “Employability Enhancement” was organized for the students of BBA and BCA final year. Er. Shilpa Miglani Narang, Assistant Professor cum Training and Placement  Officer,  Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology, Ludhiana  was the Resource Person. She talked about various  employability skills required to make the students industry ready. (March 29, 2022)
  • Another Trip to Kasauli and Chandigarh (Mansa Devi, Fun City) was organized on special request by the students on March 28, 2022.
  • A Book Release Event was organized by the PG Department of English for its student-authors. The book “Wordsmith” is compiled and edited by Sanjana Bhanot, a student of MA (English) Semester IV of the college. This is her second published work. Her first book “How to be a Successful Writer” was published in October 2021.  “Wordsmith” is an anthology of poems, with contributions from 20 authors across the country. Two students of MA (English) Semester IV of the college, Niharika Dev and Harsimrat Kaur, are the co-authors of this book, which they describe as “a soulful journey into the universe of imagination and creativity.” (March 28, 2022)
  • 12 Members of the College Baseball Team represented Ludhiana and won Gold Medal at 16th Senior State Baseball championship for  Women held at Shahi Sports College, Samrala from March 26-27, 2022. The college team defeated the team from Ropar by 12-0 in the semifinal and won the final against the team of Patiala by 6-1. (March 26-27, 2022)
  • Students attended the inauguration of NSKT Vocational Centre at Nehru Sidhant Kendra, Ludhiana. Mr. Vikas Garg, Secretary of Technical Education, and Industrial Training, Government of Punjab was Chief Guest and Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner was Guest of Honour.   • A written examination was conducted by SGPC (Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee) on the college campus. The students from various streams of the college participated in the Level 3 and 4 of this examination. This paper was conducted for the first time on campus.(March 25-26, 2022)
  • Two Day ICHR Sponsored National Seminar on Guru Teg Bahadur Ji was organized on the topic “Paragon of Humanity and Sacrifice- Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji” to commemorate the 400th Birth anniversary of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. (March 25-26, 2022)

Day-1 : Dr. Jagbir Singh, Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was the chief guest while Dr. Sarabjinder Singh, Professor and Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Religious studies, GNDU, Amritsar was the keynote speaker.

Day 2: Dr. Sukhpreet Singh Udhoke, Sikh Historian was the Guest of Honour while Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Chairperson, School of Punjabi Studies, PU, Chandigarh delivered the presidential address.

  • An Entrepreneurship Awareness Program on Self-Employment Opportunities was organized on the  campus. Mr. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Director, MSME- Development Institute, Ludhiana apprised the students about the program and schemes of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. He also shared with the students the various loan schemes and subsidies provided by the government to promote start-ups. The other dignitaries present on the occasion were Mr. Balwinder Sidhu (Functional Manager, District Industrial Centre, Ludhiana), Mr. Sanjay Gupta (Chief Manager and Lead District Manager) and Mr. Krishan Kumar (Assistant Director, MSME, Development Institute). This event was organized under the guidance of placement coordinators, Dr. Neetu Prakash and Dr. Nidhi Sharma. (March 24, 2022)
  • A portrait-making competition was organized  to mark Martyrs’ Day on March 23, 2022. 30 students participated in this activity and paid tributes to Shaheed Bhagat Singh. This competition was organized under the guidance of Mrs. Harpreet Kaur and Mrs. Balwinder Kaur.
  • Department of Business Management organized an Industrial Visit to Jawandsons Pvt Ltd-A unit of Oster group, Ludhiana on March 22, 2022. During the visit, the students were apprised about the vision and working of the organization through a presentation and a visit to the production area. They interacted with the technical staff and learned about the process of manufacturing home furnishings.
  • World Water Day was observed on the college campus on March 22, 2022 with the objective of raising awareness amongst the students. Keeping in mind the theme, “Groundwater, making the invisible visible,” the two rain water harvesting units had been successfully established within the college campus. On this occasion, various activities were organized by the team members. An Interactive session was conducted with students in which issues related to water consumption were discussed. Along with this, a brainstorming session was conducted by the team members suggesting various ways and ideas in order to save water. A practical demonstration was given to students on how water can be saved while drinking from water coolers. An awareness banner was also displayed within campus regarding different ways of raising ground water level.
  • Martyr’s Day was observed in the college on March 22, 2022 under the guidance of NSS Programme Officers Dr. Neetu Prakash and Mrs. Satwant Kaur and Red Ribbon Club Coordinators Dr. Nidhi Sharma and Ms. Daisy Wadhwa. On this day, students delivered speeches on Bhagat Singh’s national perspective and explained how he sacrificed his life in order to make India an independent nation
  • ‘World Poetry Day’ was celebrated in the college. On this occasion, various activities including, Poem Recitation and ‘Meet-The Poets’ were conducted. Students recited creations of Jnanpith Award Winning Poets of Hindi. The event was conducted under the guidance of Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, Head, Department of Hindi and Mrs. Gagneet Pal Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of English. The theme of the event was ‘Women Empowerment.’ As a source of encouragement, prizes were given to the winners of self-composed poems as well as recitations. (March 21, 2022)
  • Panjab University, Chandigarh Inter-college Softball Tournament was held at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana, in which our college Softball Team won a Silver Medal. The members of the winning team are: Navdeep Kaur, Pooja, Manpreet Kaur, Baljit Kaur, Krishma, Arshpreet Kaur, Nishu, Jaspinder Kaur, Amandeep Kaur, Parminder Kaur, Simranjeet Kaur, Heena, Honey Sharma, Aradhana, Kiranjeet Kaur, Jaskiran Kaur.   • One day Educational Tours to Kasauli and Chandigarh (Fun city, Mansa Devi) were organized by the college on March 19, 2022. These trips were organized under the guidance and supervision of Tour and Trips Coordinators, Dr. Kuldeep Kaur and Mrs. Seema Dua.
  • GNKCW students participated in the Shabad Gyaan competition organized by GHG Khalsa College, Sudhar, Ludhiana on March 17, 2022. The college team, comprising six members, obtained 4th position while two students bagged individual prizes. Simrandeep Kaur won 2nd prize whereas Geetanjali got an Appreciation prize.

  • Holi- the festivals of colours was celebrated  with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm on March 17, 2022. On the occasion Sweets Making Competition was organized by the department of Home Science.  Mrs. Shikha Kalra, Dr. Shikha Bajaj and Mrs. Amarpreet Kaur organized the activity and guided the students for participation. A Demo was also given on Gujia Making- the traditional Holi Mithai. The students as well as teachers celebrated the festival by applying colours to each other and playing Holi.

  • A mentoring meet was held on the campus on March 15, 2022. The prime objective of this meeting was to inform students about various scholarship schemes available in the college and other forthcoming events. Students were encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. The students enthusiastically attended this meeting and shared their views with their mentors. Mrs. Manpreet Kaur and Dr. Madhu Dhawan coordinated the conduct of the meeting.
  • An Interactive Talk on the theme “Fair Digital Finance” was organized in the college to mark the “World Consumer Rights Day” on March 15, 2022.   Resource Person Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Commerce, discussed how Digital technologies that are reshaping payments, lending, insurance, and wealth management, are becoming a key enabler for consumers of financial services. The vision sets out questions for decision-makers from a consumer’s perspective to build a digital financial marketplace that is inclusive, safe, data protected and private, and sustainable for everyone.
  • The Annual College Budget for the session 2022-23 was presented by the college Bursar to the College Governing Body on March 14, 2022. This budget was prepared by Mrs. Maninder Kaur (College Bursar), Mrs. Manmeet Kaur (Finance Officer), and CA  Gurbir Singh. During the ceremony, Mrs. Maninder Kaur highlighted the salient features of this budget. Madam Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon appreciated the efforts and hard work of the Financial Team in preparing the budget. General Secretary of the College Governing Body, Er. Gurvinder Singh congratulated the Principal and the financial team and highlighted that this exercise is important for the future planning and the growth of the institution.
  • Sangrand Celebration:  Chet month’s Sangrand was celebrated with full fervor on the college campus on March 14, 2022. The event started with prayers of Shri Japji Sahib Ji and Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Ardaas. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Associate Professor, PG Department of Commerce highlighted the importance of this day. Madam Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, staff, and students prayed for the wellbeing of everyone.

  • International Women’s Day was celebrated by Rotary Club Model Town, Ludhiana in association with Lala Jagat Narayan Nishkaam Seva Society, Ludhiana at Gyan Sathal Mandir, Ludhiana on March 13, 2022. On this occasion, social activists, women educationists, and Doctors were honored for their selfless service to society. It is a matter of great pride for us as two of our faculty members, Dr. Balbir Kaur, and Mrs. Manmeet Kaur, Associate Professors, were awarded the “Mrs. Savdesh Chopra Naari Shakti Award”, during this event. The General Secretary College Governing Body, Er. Gurvinder Singh and the college Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon congratulated them and appreciated their contribution to the college and the society at large.
  • Departments of Fashion Designing and Home Science in collaboration with the Placement Cell organized a seminar on Beauty and Wellness in the campus on March 12, 2022. Mrs. Indra Ahluwalia, Founder of Grace Academy explained career prospects in the Makeup and Grooming industry. Resource persons from Grace Academy, Ms. Mansi, Ms. Benna Seth, Ms. Simran Kaur, Ms. Sandeep Kaur, and Ms. Maninder Kaur discussed with students the self-grooming techniques and the latest make-up trends. The team also demonstrated a few tips for face contouring and highlighting using make-up. The seminar was facilitated by Dr. Shikha Bajaj, Assistant Professor in Fashion Designing, Ms. Shikha Kalra, and Ms. Amarpreet Kaur, Assistant Professors in Home Science in collaboration with the college Placement Coordinators, Dr. Neetu Prakash and Dr. Nidhi.
  • A Special Alumni Meet was held on the college campus on March 12, 2022. The Alumni of the college who are working as teachers/ facilitators/ Administrators in various Government and Private CBSE, PSEB, and ICSE schools of the city and nearby surrounding areas were felicitated for their contribution in the field of education. 42 Alumni were presented the ‘Teacher Appreciation Award’.  Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur (Dean, Alumni Association) accorded a warm welcome to the alumni. Mrs. Seema Dua, the College Registrar, managed the conduct of the event.

  • A Webinar on “Growing opportunities in Banking Financial Services and Insurance Sector, and Placement Program related to Banking Sales especially Business Development Program with IndusInd Bank” was organized in the college on March 11, 2022 . The resource person Mr. Jagjit Singh Bedi from NIIT Ltd. illustrated the eligibility criteria, job role, training, internship, and joining with the CTC offerings. The session also included details of the initiatives from NIIT which focus on the fulfillment of BFSI requirements. The session was organized for the final year students of all streams as a placement initiative under the able guidance of placement coordinators, Dr. Neetu Prakash and Dr. Nidhi Sharma.

  • A special 2-day Instant Bank Account Opening Camp was organized in the college premises on March 10-11, 2022. This camp was organized as a part of Women’s Day Celebrations with the aim of encouraging financial independence among women.
  • As a part of the ‘Earn while you Learn’ scheme of the college, a ‘Pickle Sale Counter’ was set up on campus on March 10, 2022 . The ginger-chilly pickle prepared by the students of the Home Science Department was put on sale for the students and the staff of the college. Madam Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon said that the ‘Earn while you Learn’ program provides opportunities to the students to get hands-on business experience while studying.
  • The students of the college, Harmanpreet Kaur, Gurleen Kaur, Simpreet Kaur, and Paramdeep Kaur, participated in the 12th edition of ‘Dhee Punjab Di’ contest on March 10, 2022  Harmanpreet Kaur, a student of BBA Semester VI bagged the title of ‘Tunnehari Akh’ while Simpreet Kaur, student of B.Com Semester VI won the title of ‘Changi Bularan’. Mrs. Seema Devi, Department of Punjabi, accompanied the students for the contest.
  • A Gender Sensitization Programme was organized  by the Department of Sociology in the college through the medium of film screening on March 09, 2022. Dr. Madhu Dhawan, Assistant Professor, said that meaningful inclusion of gender is required for women’s autonomy and dignity in our society.
  • International Women’s Day 2022 (March 08, 2022)
    As a part of International Women’s Day celebrations, a series of events were organized at GNKCW under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell. The college students and staff members pledged to create an equitable society by striking the IWD #BreakTheBias pose with their arms crossed. They joined in to show their commitment in calling out gender bias, smashing stereotypes, breaking inequality, and rejecting discrimination.
  • The college organized a talk on “Common Menstrual problems in young females” for the students on March 07, 2022. Dr. Suhasini Raina (Obstetrics and Gynecology) and Dr. Ankur Sharma (Internal Medicine) from Aykai Hospital discussed major health issues with students. The talk was followed by a “Free Health Check-up Camp” for students and staff. The activity was convened by Dr. Neetu Prakash, Dr. Nidhi Sharma, Ms. Daisy Wadhwa and Mrs. Satwant Kaur.
  • Panjab University Inter-College Taekwondo Championship was held at PU campus from March 06-09, 2022. Karuna Bali, a student of PGDMC Semester II, won a Silver Medal in the 67kg weight category. The following students of the college participated in different weight categories in this championship.

    – Sumeshtha, BA Semester VI, 53kg weight category
    – Kamlesh Kumari, BA Semester VI, 57kg weight category

  • With the commencement of the even semester on March 04, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell conducted a meeting with the staff members on March 05, 2022. The academic plan for the semester was discussed by the College Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon with emphasis upon regular testing and evaluation strategies. It was also suggested that the syllabi should be reviewed from time to time and the students must be motivated to access the library and all the facilities provided therein. Plans to celebrate important days like the upcoming International Women’s Day, Holi, etc. were formulated. In addition, the staff was propelled to constantly upgrade their skills and academic qualifications. The meeting was facilitated by the IQAC Coordinator Dr. Kuldeep Kaur and Co-coordinator Dr. Anupam Vatsyayan.
  • The Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) of the water filter in the Home Science cooking lab was renewed on March 05, 2022. The candle of the water filter was replaced to make safe and clean water available for drinking and cooking purposes.
  • A meeting of members of the Central Association (student council) was held with the prime objective of discussing the duties and responsibilities of members during the even semester on March 05, 2022. The members enthusiastically attended this meeting after a long gap due to COVID-19 restrictions and shared their views with the teachers in-charge, Mrs. Seema Dua, Mrs. Gagneet Pal, and Dr. Nidhi. The members were also assigned duties for the upcoming International Women’s Day celebrations on 08 March.
  • A Mentoring Meet was organized in the college on March 05, 2022. The prime objective of this meeting was to build trust and faith in the mentor-mentee relationship through open discussion. The students enthusiastically attended this meet after a long gap imposed by Covid-19 restrictions and shared their views with their mentors. This activity was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Madhu Dhawan and Ms. Manpreet Sarna.
  • A team comprising four students of the college participated in the Inter-Institutional (National Level) Debate competition on March 04, 2022. This competition was organized by Ludhiana Management Association (LMA). Ms. Shubhra Sharma accompanied the students to the competition. The students who participated in the competition were:

  • The Water Management Team of the college under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India conducts regular maintenance drives for proper utilization of water on the campus and for making safe and clean drinking water available to the students and teachers. As a part of the maintenance drive conducted on March 4, 2022, the faulty drinking water filters in the old college hostel and canteen were repaired by replacing their weight sensor valve, S valve, and membranes.
  • The herbal garden at GNKCW is managed by the Greenery Management Team led by Mrs. Gagneet Pal Kaur. The Greenery Team is a part of Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) committee of the college under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India. The garden houses a variety of medicinal and aromatic plants, including, sadabahar, gugal, pipli mag, insulin plant, lajwanti, sarpagandha, etc. The aim of setting up the garden is to make the students aware of the importance of medicinal plants and herbs.   • As per the academic plan issued by the Panjab University, Chandigarh, offline classes for the Even Semester- 2022 began in the college on March 04, 2022. The college campus was buzzing with activity as the students were excited to embark on the new semester. The teachers encouraged the students to commence the new semester mindful of their learning goals and work diligently towards achieving them.
  • Admission Committee conducted a quiz activity for the students of Maya Devi Goel Public School, Ahmedgarh Road, District Ludhiana on March 02, 2022.The school students participated in this activity with great enthusiasm. The top scorers in the quiz were felicitated.
  • As the new semester of the colleges affiliated to the Panjab University, Chandigarh is slated for March 4, 2022, department-level student orientation programs were conducted to acclimatize the students about the academic calendar of the new semester, time-table, subjects to be studied, and the subject books to be referred. Students were also informed about the activities that the college has planned to conduct during the upcoming semester. (March 02, 2022)

  • Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor in the PG Department of Commerce attended a one day workshop on NEP 2020 that was organized by Gulzar Group of Institutes (GGI), Khanna on February 25, 2022. She was honored by GGI for being an extraordinaire teacher/ mentor of the college for motivating and inspiring students and for her exemplary work as the Dean of Alumni Association of the college.
  • A Luncheon Party was organized to celebrate the wedding of ‘Pranav and Vinny’, the son and daughter-in-law of Dr. Parveen Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration. The members of the College Governing body, Madam Principal, and members of the staff attended the celebration. This celebration was coordinated by Mrs. Punpreet Kaur and Dr. Madhu Dhawan, the Secretaries of the College Staff Welfare Society. (February 24, 2022)

  • Central Excise Day is celebrated to commemorate the Legislation of Central Excise and Salt Act. To mark this day, our Resource Person, Mrs. Manpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, highlighted the importance of paying taxes in the growth and development of the country. All the members of the staff took a pledge to pay the taxes with honesty. (February 24, 2022)
  • Parampreet Kaur of BA Semester I bagged the Consolation Prize in the Inter-College Poster-Making Competition held at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana. The theme of the competition was ‘Gender Equity’. (February 24, 2022)
  • The members of the Red Ribbon Club took the Anti-Drug e-pledge, “Say yes to Life, No to Drugs” on February 23, 2022. This activity was conducted as a part of the Public Outreach Program of the Department of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for raising awareness against the ill effects of drugs.
  • Faculty from the PG Department of Commerce attended the Post Budget Webinar on “Education and Skill Sector” organized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India on February 21, 2022. The main theme of the webinar was ‘Achieving Atma Nirbharta through the Amrit Mantra of Digital Education and Dynamic Skilling’.

  • Members of the Staff Welfare Committee paid a visit to Mrs. Meenakshi Devi, (Administrative Staff) who underwent a Gallbladder surgery . Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and the staff sent her wishes for a speedy recovery and good health. (February 21, 2022)
  • A Slogan Writing competition was organized in the college to mark  Matribhasha Diwason February 21, 2022.   Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, Head, Department of Hindi, and Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur, Head, Department of Punjabi spoke about the relevance of the mother language. 
  • 16th Legislative Assembly elections were held on February 20, 2022 in Punjab. As responsible citizens of India, the staff and students of the college  participated in the electoral process and exercised their right to vote for the constitution of the state government.
  • On the occasion of the United Nations’ World Day of Social Justice,  Dr. Praveen Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration,  informed that the day is annually observed on February 20 to encourage people to look at how social justice affects poverty eradication. She also elaborated on the theme of the day, “Achieving Social Justice through Formal Employment”(February 19, 20222)
  • Keeping in view the current requirement of masks during the pandemic, a Mask-Making Competition was organized by the college on February 17, 2022. The students created many trendy and stylish masks. Eighteen entries were received from students of various streams. All the entries were hugely appreciated, and were judged by Mrs. Shikha Kalra, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science. This competition was conducted by Dr. Shikha Bajaj, Assistant Professor in Fashion Designing. The winners of this competition are:

  • An Exhibition-cum-Sale of traditional suits of Himachal Pradesh was arranged on February 15, 2022. Dr. Shikha Bajaj, Assistant Professor in Fashion Designing, explained the making of Himachali Patti. She mentioned that Patti is a major handloom product that is made in jacquard weave by using locally available sheep wool. 
  • Dr. Praveen Arora, Nodal officer, Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) committee of the college and Dr. Balbir Kaur, Incharge, Waste Management Team ( College SAP committee) attended a 5- Day Faculty Development Program(February 14-18, 2022) on ‘Mentoring for Institutional Social Responsibility and Facilitation for Community Engagement’ organized by the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.
  • The college organized a get-together to celebrate the “Love for Community” on the occasion of Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2022). Speaking on the occasion, the College Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon said that the success and growth of a community require love, freedom, and harmony. This activity was organized by Mrs. Punpreet Kaur and Dr. Madhu Dhawan, coordinators of the staff welfare society.
  • National Women’s Day was celebrated to mark the 143rd Birth Anniversary of the Nightingale of India, Sarojini Naidu on February 14, 2022. She was a prominent freedom fighter, poet and Human Rights Activist who wrote poems such as “Autumn Song”, “To India”, “Raksha Bandhan”. The event was organized by Mrs. Gagneet Pal Kaur who also recited a poem on this occasion to celebrate the creativity of the author and her love for the motherland.
  • The Army Wing of NCC and Department of Fine Arts paid homage to the CRPF Jawans who lost their lives in Pulwama Terror Attack in 2019. Students extended their respect to the martyrs by making posters and by reciting poems. (February 14, 2022)
  • An Alumni Meet was organized on February 12, 2022 in the college campus. The members of the College Governing Body, Former Principals and Professors graced the occasion with their presence. The General Secretary of the college governing body, Er. Gurvinder Singh accorded a warm welcome to the guests and honored the retired Principals, teachers, non-teaching staff and supporting staff. A token of love was also presented to the outstanding alumni of the college who have made a mark in various fields. Former students of the college shared their experiences and memories on the occasion and walked down memory lane by participating in a Fashion Show organized for them on the theme, ‘Celebrating Self’. On this occasion, General Secretary, College Governing Body, Er. Gurvinder Singh announced a benefit of 10% fee scholarship to be awarded to the daughters of the alumni who take admission in GNKCW.
  • The college celebrated Sangrand to mark the beginning of ‘Phagan’ month on February 12, 2022. The college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, and the staff prayed for the happiness, success, and well-being of everyone.
  • The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was celebrated in the college with the screening of a docu-drama titled ‘Kamala: The Swadesi Nutri-Indian’ on February 11, 2022. Ms. Daisy Wadhwa, Head of the Computer Science Department moderated the event and shared the details of the research contributions made by Dr. Sohonie.
  • As per UGC guidelines, the college registered on the Vidyanjali Higher Education portal, a programme of the Ministry of Higher Education aimed to strengthen and support students, faculties, and Higher Education institutions through volunteerism. An Orientation Programme for Institute Nodal Officers under Vidyanjali Higher Education Programme was organized by AICTE on February 11, 2022 in the virtual mode which was attended by nodal officer Dr. Nidhi Sharma.
  • The college (as per the directions of MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India) undertook the task of separating capacitors in the electrical meter room in order to monitor the meter readings more efficiently and to reduce the utilization of energy thereafter. (February 11, 2022)
  • Swachhta Action Plan Committee of the college under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India organized an old electrical fittings Replacement Drive on February 09, 2022 . The heavy watt tube lights and bulbs were replaced with new LED lights in order to conserve energy.
  • A session to mark Safer Internet Day was organized in the college. Mrs. Satwant Kaur, Assistant Professor, who was the resource person for the day discussed ‘Online Safety tips for Teachers’. (February 08, 2022) 
  • NSS volunteers of the college attended a webinar on February 07, 2022 for ensuring 100% PWD voters turn out on the poll day of the Vidhan Sabha Elections 2022. The Webinar was conducted under the directions of the Director of Youth Services, Punjab.
  • The college participated in the Surya Namaskar Project, organized as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the Ministry of Ayush in collaboration with National Yogasana Sports Federation on the occasion of 75th anniversary of India’s Independence. This project was carried out in college for a month from January 10 to February 08, 2022, under the guidance of UGC coordinator, Dr. Nidhi Sharma. Students performed Surya Namaskar at their homes regularly throughout the month due to COVID-19 restrictions while hostel students performed various asanas on the college campus. Teaching and non-teaching staff also participated in this activity. (February 07, 2022)
  • A lunch get-together was organized on February 05, 2022 to celebrate the birthdays of the teachers which fall in the months of December and January. Token of affection was given to the members of teaching, non-teaching and supporting staff. The coordinators of the Staff Welfare Society, Mrs. Punpreet Kaur and Dr. Madhu Dhawan organized the celebration.
  • The festival of Basant Panchami (February 05, 2022) which marks the arrival of the spring season was celebrated with full zeal on the campus.  Yellow became the color of the day as the teaching and non-teaching staff dressed in beautiful yellow attires. Celebrations included kite flying and a traditional lunch, comprising yellow rice. Conveying her wishes, the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon said that Basant Panchami may bring prosperity, optimism, and happiness for everyone.

    On this occasion, the NSS unit of the college organized a ‘Kite Flying’ activity as a part of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’ program. There was an air of joy and enthusiasm as colorful kites adorned the clear, sunlit sky. The General Secretary of the college governing body, Er. Gurvinder Singh, the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, and the staff members of the college participated in this activity with great zeal. Also, as a part of the celebration, a session on nutritious cooking was organized. Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur, Head, Department of Punjabi demonstrated the preparation of ‘Alsi (Flaxseeds) Pinni’, a traditional and healthy winter recipe.

  • Under the guidance of the Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, ANO of the college, Lt. Sukhjit Kaur, conducted an online meeting with second and third year NCC cadets regarding the NCC B and C certificate exams scheduled for February 06 and 27, 2022.  (February 04, 2022)
  • An informative  session was organized on World Cancer Day (February 04, 2022) Dr. Sucharu Prakash, Director, Texas Oncology and Texas Society of Clinical Oncology, U.S.A was the resource person. Raising awareness about the importance of preventative measures and early diagnosis of cancer, he said, “On this day, let’s come together and fight this enemy called cancer. I want you to realize that as students you have the power of knowledge and the strength in numbers. Every small step that you take – diet, exercise, lifestyle modification – will make a difference and go a long way in making this world free of this terrible illness.”  NSS programme officers also submitted the Quarterly report of NSS activities to the college Principal.
  • A two-day Webinar on the topic “Union Budget 2022- 2023: Analysis and Impact” was organized on February 03-04, 2022 .

    Day 1: Mrs. Maninder Kaur, Head, PG Department of Commerce, was the resource person. She provided an overview of the impact of various proposals announced in the Union Budget 2022-23 on Indian economy and businesses.

    Day 2: Mrs. Manmeet Kaur, Associate Professor, PG Department of Commerce, presented details of various industrial aspects covered in this Union Budget. She also informed about the policy updates related to the Education and Social Welfare sectors.  

  • World Wetlands Day was celebrated on February 02, 2022. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Associate Professor, was the resource person. She highlighted the problem of water scarcity, the need for water conservation and also discussed the importance of rainwater harvesting as a system for water recharge. A comprehensive maintenance drive was conducted by the Water Management Team of the Swachhta Action Plan  Committee of the college (MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India). As a part of this drive, filters of rainwater harvesting units and the water reservoir were cleaned. 
  • The Placement coordinators, Dr. Neetu Prakash, Associate Prof., and Dr. Nidhi Sharma, Head, Dept. of Business Management handed over the half-yearly report of Placement Cell activities to the College Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon. Dr. Nidhi elucidated upon the Placement initiatives taken by the cell from July 2021 to December 2021. (February 01, 2022) 

Activities for the Month of January 2022

  • National Martyrs’ Day was observed in the college as Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwas in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. On this day NSS Volunteers paid homage to Gandhiji by lighting candles and observing a two-minute silence. (January 30, 2022)
  • An online session to mark World Leprosy Eradication Day was held on January 29, 2022. The session was conducted by Dr. Nidhi and Ms. Daisy Wadhwa, the Coordinators of the Red Ribbon Club. During the session, the students were apprised about the causes of leprosy, the ways in which this disease spreads, and the available treatment modalities.
  • The college paid a humble tribute to the legendary freedom fighter and true nationalist Lala Lajpat Rai on his 157th birth anniversary on January 28, 2022. Dr. Madhu Dhawan, Assistant Professor, enlightened the audience about the indelible sacrifices made by the true legend of India.
  • An online competition on the theme ‘Repurposing of old socks’ was organized to spread awareness about recycling and reusing. 19 students from various streams enthusiastically participated in the competition and created beautiful and decorative utility articles from old socks. The entries were evaluated by Mrs. Shikha Kalra, Department of Home Science and Mrs. Harpreet Kaur, Department of Fine Arts. (January 27, 2022)
  • The 73rd Republic Day was celebrated in the college on January 26, 2022 by hoisting the Indian tricolor on the campus. Speaking on the occasion, the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon said that Republic Day marks the celebration of our country’s constitution. The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by the college hostellers.
  • A series of activities were done in the college to observe National Voters’ Day on January 25, 2022. A seminar was organized on the theme “Respect your voting right”. Seminar Convenor, Dr. Madhu Dhawan informed the importance of voting in a democracy. A signature movement and an awareness campaign were also launched on the campus to encourage the eligible voters to cast their votes during the elections.
  • National Girl Child Day was celebrated in the college on January 24, 2022 with an Intra Class Poster making competition on the theme ‘Save Girl Child’. 45 students of the college prepared posters depicting the importance of saving the girl child. A seminar was also conducted by the NSS Unit on the topic “Save Girl Child”. 
  • Under the guidance of the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, the Controller of Examination, Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur, and the College Registrar, Mrs. Seema Dua conducted meetings with teachers to apprise them with the instructions related to the upcoming Panjab University, Chandigarh Examinations which were scheduled to begin from January 24, 2022.   • The regular teaching staff of the college contributed Rs. 25,000/- in the Students Scholarship Fund of the college.(January17, 2022)
  • On January 17, 2022, Dr. Arvind Dhingra, a certified Energy Auditor, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana presented the energy audit report to the college Principal. He also shared pointers on saving energy that should be followed in daily life.  
  • The 74th Indian Army Day was celebrated in recognition of KM Cariappa’s appointment as the First Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. ANO of the college, Lt. Sukhjit Kaur, delivered  an online lecture on the importance of the day. NCC cadets and the college students also joined the online event of Army Day Parade broadcast LIVE from the KM Cariappa Parade Ground, New Delhi. (January15, 2022)
  • Makar Sankranti was celebrated with full fervor in the college. The event started with prayers of Shri Japji Sahib Ji and Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Ardaas. Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur, HOD, Punjabi Department highlighted the importance of this day. The NSS unit of the college celebrated Makar Sankranti as a part of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat‘ program to convey the message of ‘Unity in Diversity’ throughout India. (January 14, 2022)
  • The festival of Lohri which ushers in the joyous spring and bids adieu to the harsh winter season, was celebrated in the college with great enthusiasm. Under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, the Staff Welfare Society organized a get-together during which the holy fire was lit by the college. For this occasion, students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication also created videos at their homes on the theme, ‘Dheeyan Di Lohri’. (January 13, 2022)
  • The NCC Cadets celebrated the National Youth Festival from January 12-16, 2022. As a part of the week-long celebrations, the NCC cadets practiced yoga and meditation to keep the mind and body healthy and free from diseases.
  • National Youth Day was celebrated in the college on January 12, 2022. On this occasion, tree plantation was done by the members of the Youth Club at their respective homes. Celebrating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand Ji, a PowerPoint presentation was also given by Dr. Madhu Dhawan on the topic “Moral Values.” 
  • On the occasion of the 159th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and addressed the 25th National Youth Festival being hosted by Puducherry. The Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and Staff of GNKCW attended this virtual event in the college Seminar Hall. The event was also attended by the college students from their homes. (January 12, 2022)

  • Senior Citizens’ Conclave (SSC) Scholarship (Girls) 2021- 2022 was awarded to college students on January 12, 2022. The scholarship amount of Rs. 3,000/- was given to each awardee at a function held in Panday Auditorium, Nehru Sidhant Kender Complex, Feroze Gandhi Market, Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana.
  • The college completed the installation of a second rainwater harvesting unit in the college campus. This project was completed under the guidance of the SAP Nodal Officer, Dr. Praveen Arora, and the Water Management Team led by Dr. Kuldeep Kaur and Mrs. Shikha Kalra. (January 11-21, 2022)
  • A series of activities as a part of the Largest Plantation Drive- ‘Each One Plant One’ was conducted on campus. Under the leadership of the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, and with the guidance of the SAP Nodal Officer, Dr. Praveen Arora as well as the SAP Greenery In-charge, Mrs. Gagneet Pal Kaur, this campaign aimed to encourage the plantation/ adoption of trees to create and sustain a clean, green environment.   • As a part of the infrastructure maintenance policy, the classroom furniture was renovated for ensuring safe and functional spaces throughout the campus. The work picked up pace during this period due to the absence of students on account of COVID and the switchover to the online mode. (January 10, 2022)

  • NSS Program Officers Dr. Neetu Prakash  and Mrs. Satwant Kaur attended an online meeting for registration in National Youth Festival 2022  on January 10, 2022 organized by the NSS Department.
  • The college Registrar, Mrs. Seema Dua conducts regular interaction sessions with the students and their parents. During January 10-15, 2022, she handled the queries of the students related to the submission of Internet Allowance form, Single Girl Child Scholarship form as well student questions regarding the announcement of University practical and theory examination datesheets.
  • “World Hindi Diwas” was celebrated  in virtual mode on January 10, 2022. Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, Head, Department of Hindi was the resource person.  The day is especially observed by Indian embassies abroad.
  • Prakash Purab of the tenth Sikh Guru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was celebrated on the college campus on January8, 2022. As a part of the celebrations, Dr. Balbir Kaur, Librarian and Mrs. Seema Dua, Department of Economics, prepared the holy kadha prasad amidst the recital of Gurbani. On this occasion, the supporting staff of the college prepared langar.
  • The IQAC meeting was held on January 06, 2022 with the stakeholders. The General Secretary of College Governing Body, Er. Gurvinder Singh presided over the meeting as the management representative. At the outset, he extended his wishes for the New Year to all the members of IQAC. The seven criteria of AQAR were discussed and the core values and work culture of the college were reiterated. Best Practices of the institution were highlighted along with the importance of governance and leadership.
  • The Sanitation and Hygiene team of the college (MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India) has established a regular preventive maintenance program for rooftop cleaning. The program includes a monthly inspection and cleaning of cantilevers and rooftops on the college campus. (January5, 2022)
  • The college organized a series of demonstrations on the theme ‘Ab Healthy Living Ki Zimmedari Hamari’ from January 05-12, 2022. In this series, the members of the teaching and non-teaching staff shared their recipes and tips on Immunity Boosting and healthy food options for Winters.  The main aim of this multi-part event is to raise awareness about recipes that are power-packed with essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals and help boost the immune system for combating COVID-19.

  • As the number of COVID-19 cases are rising, the IQAC has initiated the movement of distributing masks to the teachers, students and parents visiting the college campus.
  • Dr. Madhu Dhawan was appointed as new Staff Secretary w.e.f January 01, 2022. Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur handed over the charge to Dr. Madhu for handling tasks related to staff welfare.
  • IQAC meeting was organised on January 01, 2022. Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon discussed the postponement of semester examination by the Panjab University, Chandigarh, preparation of Academic Calendar for the upcoming semester, requirement of books and journals for the college library, progression of the ongoing rain harvesting project, and preparation of AQAR. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur, Coordinator of IQAC and Dr. Anupam Vatsyayan, co-coordinator of IQAC, answered the queries of the staff members related to the filling up of AQAR. 
  • A Tea party was organized to welcome the New Year 2022 on January 01, 2022. Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon wished staff a very happy new year and prayed for a great year ahead. Staff Secretaries, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur organized the celebration. The non-teaching and class IV employees of the college attended the party which was chaired by the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon.   

Activities for the Month of December 2021

  • Under the aegis of IQAC, the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee of the college (MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India) conducted a series of activities as a part of the ‘Gandhi Chhadi’ mission from December 27 to December 31, 2021. Under the leadership of the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, and with the guidance of the SAP coordinator, Dr. Praveen Arora, this five-day campaign aimed to encourage the adoption of an innovative waste collection tool, the Gandhi Chhadi, for ensuring Swachhta.

    Day- 1: The campaign began with a brainstorming session on December 27, 2021, wherein the college management and staff chalked out the campaign outline.

    Day -2: On December 28, 2021, a detailed plan was formulated regarding the activities to be conducted under the Gandhi Chhadi Mission. A Swachhta pledge was also taken.

    Day- 3:On December 29, 2021, the SAP Team organized a workshop on making Gandhi Chhadi. A Campus Cleanliness Drive was conducted in which 20 students of the college participated with full enthusiasm to clean the campus.

    Day 4 & Day 5: On December 30 & 31, 2021, the college students and staff took the initiative of cleaning the area outside the campus using Gandhi Chhadi. This activity served the dual purpose of ensuring cleanliness and promoting the adoption of Gandhi Chhadi to the local population. During the entire period of cleanliness drive, 25 Kg of waste was collected which was used for making compost.

  • The General Secretary of the college governing body, Er. Gurvinder Singh, conducted an inspection of the college building and infrastructure. During the inspection, the various aspects of infrastructure upgradation and maintenance were identified. He highlighted the efforts put in by the college Trust and the Former General Secretary, Professor Gurbir Singh Sarna for the development and growth of the college. He also appreciated the hard work of the college Principal and the Staff for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the campus. The Principal of the College, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon assured him that through the joint efforts of the teaching and non-teaching staff, the college will strive to achieve excellence. (December 27, 2021)

    The inspection was followed by the birthday celebration of the General Secretary. The get-together was organized by the Staff Welfare society of the college.

  • Dr. Neetu Prakash and Mrs. Satwant Kaur attended a seven-day Orientation program for the NSS program officers organized by Empanelled Training Institute and Institute for Development and Communication at Chandigarh University, Gharuan from December 24, 2021, to December 30, 2021. They were felicitated by the college.
  • The college organized a webinar on the topic “Farm Law Repeal: A Victory of Democracy” to mark National Farmers Day on December 23, 2021. Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, was the Resource Person. She highlighted the importance of the day and also provided an overview of the three contentious farm laws which were rolled back by the Central government. The college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon urged the students to understand the importance of the contributions made by the farmers for the overall social and economic development of our country.

  • GNKCW is committed to responsible and effective e-waste management. The e-waste generated by the college was channeled for safe disposal and recycling through Cosmos Recycling Centre, Ludhiana. A certification was also issued by Cosmos Recycling Centre in the name of the college stating that the material received from the college will be handled in “scientific and eco friendly manner” and in strict compliance with the guidelines set by “e-waste rules, 2016 of Central Pollution Control Board.” (December 19, 2021)

  • Minorities Rights Day underlines the preservation and promotion of the rights of minority communities in India. On this day several campaigns, seminars, and events are conducted to inform and educate people about them. This year, a talk was organized in the college on the occasion of  “Minorities Rights Day” on December 18, 2021. Mrs. Punpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, highlighted the importance of the day and made the students aware of the scholarship schemes for minority students. She also explained the process of applying for scholarships available on the National Scholarships portal.

  • The Energy Management Team arranged the maintenance of defective wires and switches in the Office Management and Secretarial Practices (OMSP) lab with an aim to conserve energy. In addition, new electricity fittings were done for the computers added in the OMSP Lab. (December 17, 2021)
  • Attended scholarship meeting at Nehru Sidhant Kendra: Eight undergraduate students and two postgraduate students attended an interaction session with the scholarship committee of the Nehru Sidhant Kender Trust, Ludhiana for the award of Mittal-Pandey Scholarship. Mrs. Punpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Department of Business Management and Commerce) accompanied the students during the meeting. (December 17, 2021)

  • To organize Special programs for advanced and slow learners: Through the performance in mid-semester examination and participation in classroom activities, the college identified advanced learners or high achievers and the slow learners in all the classes. Remedial classes were conducted for slow learners to provide scaffolding for performance enhancement. The advanced learners of different classes were given  tokens of appreciation as encouragement for their outstanding performance.   • To ensure that students learn and work with the latest ICT tools, four new computer systems were added to the computer lab of the Department of Computer Science and Applications on December 16, 2021. These computer systems meet the latest configuration of a multimedia computer system for educational purposes and include, i5 10th generation processor, Windows 10 operating system, upgradable to Windows 11.
  • Under the aegis of IQAC, Greenery Management and Swachhata Action Plan Committee of college organized a Chrysanthemum Show in the campus on December 16, 2021. Students and faculty members enjoyed the picturesque view of beautiful chrysanthemums in full bloom at the premises. Chrysanthemums symbolize joy, optimism, loyal love, and long life. This has become a recurring feature of the college landscape that every year with the hard work of our supporting staff, students of the committee and teacher in-charges, the college is blooming in colours of nature.
  • Sangrand celebrations at GNKCW

    The college celebrated ‘Poh’ month’s Sangrand (December 15, 2021) to mark the first day of the month according to the Indian traditional calendar. The college students recited soulful Kirtan. Mrs. Maninder Kaur, Head, PG Department of Business Management and Commerce highlighted the importance of this day.

  • The Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) committee in collaboration with the Department of Fine Arts celebrated National Energy Conservation Day on December 14, 2021. On this occasion, 33 students of Fine Arts made posters on Energy Conservation. In addition, different ways of energy conservation were discussed.    
  • The Staff Welfare Society of the college organized a lunch get-together on December 11, 2021 to celebrate the birthdays of the teachers which fall in the month of November. Token of love was given to the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, and the college teachers, Dr. Parveen Arora, Department of Public Administration, Ms. Neha Dawar, Ms. Ekroop Kaur, Ms. Shubra, Department of Business Management and Commerce, and Mrs. Balwinder Kaur, Department of Fine Arts. Token of affection was given to the members of non-teaching staff, Mr. Suresh from the Administrative office, and Mrs. Harvinder Kaur, a member of Library staff. Token of gratitude was given to supporting staff: Mr. Baljeet Singh and Mr. Ramesh. The coordinators of the Staff Welfare Society, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur organized the celebration. Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon congratulated the members of the staff on their birthday and wished them success in all their endeavors.

  • Parent Teacher Association of the college organised Parent Teacher Meet on December 11, 2021. The parents were given warm welcome by GNKCW team members. During the meet, an open interaction was held with parents of students from different streams. Various students oriented activities and extracurricular activities were discussed with parents. Academic performance of the students was shared by subject teachers. Parents were also asked for their suggestions in this forum. The event was organised under guidance of Coordinator Mrs. Manpreet Kaur and Co-coordinator Dr. Madhu Dhawan.

  • Under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, the College initiated the noble task of granting Scholarship in the name of former General Secretary of the college Governing Body, Prof. Gurbir Singh Sarna to Fatherless Beti’s of the college. Prof. Sarna was a visionary and philanthropist who always thought of providing education to the marginalised and deprived sections of the society. Under this program, twenty four students were awarded scholarship by the college authorities to provide equitable education to all the students. Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon appreciated the noble initiative taken by the college as it would provide an opportunity to the students who unfortunately lost the earning member of their families. General Secretary Er. Gurvinder Singh Sarna further asserted that the management is always looking forward to help the needy students in every possible way. (December 09, 2021)

  • The Water Management Team of the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee of the college has been working diligently towards water conservation. The water coolers of the college are regularly maintained to ensure clean drinking water. In addition, broken drainage pipes of the water cooler in the Commerce block were repaired to ensure zero water wastage. (December 09, 2021)
  • The Waste Management Team collaborated with Cosmos Recycling Unit, Ludhiana for proper disposal of e-waste. Non-functional computer systems and other equipment that had reached the end-of-life were sent for recycling and safe disposal. (December 09, 2021)
  • The Energy Management Team (Swachhta Action Plan committee), under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, arranged maintenance of defective wires and switches in the Fashion designing lab, computer lab and seminar hall with an aim to conserve energy. Electricity repair work was carried out and some new required fittings were also done in the month of December, 2021.
  • The Water management Team (Swachhta Action Plan committee) under MGNCRE (Ministry of Education, Government of India) has been working diligently towards Water Management in the campus. Keeping in mind the purpose of using scarce water resources up to optimum level, the Rain Water Harvesting Project was initiated on December 4, 2021. The layout and location of the tank and pipelines were determined by inspecting the lawn areas so as to maximize the use of collection surfaces. Through this project, the collected rainwater will be used to recharge the groundwater levels by using structures like dug wells, borewells, recharge trenches and recharge pits. This project was successfully completed on January 4, 2022.

  • General Secretary of the College governing Body, Er. Gurvinder Singh, Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and Co-ordinators of Water Management Team, Dr. Kuldeep Kaur and Mrs. Shikha Kalra were actively involved in this project.

  • Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college in collaboration with Swachhata Action Plan Committee (SAP), Students of NCC Wing, NSS Unit, Red Ribbon Club, Youth Club, Red Cross Society, Swachhata Police and Eco Club celebrated International Volunteer Day on December 5, 2021.  This day provides a chance for vounteers and organisations to celebrates their efforts, values and promote their work among their communities. To mark the day, following activities were carried out in the college on December 04:

    1. The students of the college pledged to contribute towards sustainable human development.

    2.An interactive lecture on fostering volunteerism was delivered by Dr. Parveen Arora, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration.

    3.The student volunteers of the Water Management Team also pledged to promote the saving of water to maintain the continuity of life on the earth.

    4.The student volunteers of the Waste Management Team pledged to promote the usage of bio enzymes instead of pesticides to increase the durability of soil and to further ensure sustainable development.

  • Under the aegis of IQAC, Department of Physical Education gifted cricket kits to Guru Nanak Khalsa School, our sister institution in the Gujarkhan Campus on December 04, 2021.  Under the direction of Mrs. Rajveer Kaur, this goodwill gesture was executed with the aim of developing a sense of camaraderie.

  • Swachhata Action Plan Committee (SAP) in collaboration with Department of Fine Arts observed International Soil Day in the college campus on December 4, 2021. This day is observed on December 5 to raise awareness about the importance of soil, healthy ecosystems and human well-being. A number of students participated in clay modelling activity and showcased their creativity.

  • Greenery Management under Swachhata Action Plan Committee of the college initiated a noble attempt to manage the waste and reduce the carbon footprint by establishing composting unit. After a period of 45 days, the college SAP Committee has been successful in producing its own organic compost. This will be used for the cultivation as well as production of seed plants in the college nursery. (December 3, 2021)
  • The Water Management Team of the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) (under MGNCRE, Government of India) Committee of the college took another step to check wastage of water by replacing the blocked toilet seat on the first floor of the old hostel building (December 03, 2021).
  • Staff Welfare Society of the college gifted a cricket kit to Mr. Akhilesh Singh on December 03, 2021.
  • International Day of Persons with Disabilities was celebrated on December 03, 2021. Dr. Nidhi Sharma, Head of Department  of Business Management shared her saga of success with students and faculty. She talked about how an untoward   incident during her young age was not an obstacle or hindrance rather a stepping  stone towards  success in personal as well as professional life. Teachers and students applauded her story of courage, determination, empathy and bravery. 
  • The Water Management Team of the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee of the college ensured the replacement of a leaky water pipe in the college campus with a 180 feet PVC pipe on December 2, 2021.
  • Under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college,  Swachhata Action Plan Committee (SAP) observed National Pollution Control Day  on December 02, 2021. This day is being observed every year in memory of the people who lost their lives in 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy and the purpose is to raise awareness about pollution and its hazardous effects. An interactive lecture was delivered by Mr. Jasvir Singh, Head Constable (Traffic Education Cell), DCP Traffic, Ludhiana. During the session, the resource person apprised the students about the ill effects of pollution on our day to day lives and gave them certain tips on how to manage pollution control around our surroundings. This activity was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Parveen Arora and Mrs. Gagneet Pal Kaur.
  • Ms. Ritu Priya (Lecturer, Department of Business Management and Commerce) was congratulated by the staff Welfare Society on the occasion of her marriage (December 01, 2021). The staff also presented a gift token to her on this occasion.
  • The Management, Principal, and Staff of college bid a warm farewell to the former Principal of the college, Mrs. Manjit Kaur, on attaining her superannuation on December 01, 2021.

Activities for the Month of November 2021

  • Under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell , Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee  initiated a drive in which students collected the peels of vegetables and fruits from the canteen and the campus area. The waste was dumped into the  Vermi Compost  Pits under the supervision of Nodal Officer  Dr. Parveen Arora & Sanitation & Hygiene incharge Dr.  Madhu Dhawan . (November 27, 2021)
  • Energy Management Team has been in constant action for checking the wastage of energy. As a part of this approach, the maintenance of sewing machines used in the Fashion Designing lab was performed on November 25, 2021. All the Sewing machines were cleaned, oiled and minor repairs were done wherever required.
  • Gurpurab celebrations were held at Gurudwara Shaheedan (Model Town) which is under the Guru Nanak Education Trust which also runs our college on November 19, 2021. On this day, the students of the college participated in langar preparations and, later, collectively the teachers and students partook the langar and sought blessings of the Almighty.
  • Under the aegis of IQAC, the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) committee and the NCC Unit of the college organized an awareness lecture to mark World Toilet Day on November 18, 2021. Dr. Praveen Arora, the SAP coordinator, highlighted the importance of sanitation and hygiene for better health, the environment, economies, and societies. Dr. Madhu Dhawan, coordinator of Sanitation and Hygiene team, informed students about menstrual hygiene practices.

  • The Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee of the college organized a meeting to review the work being done to keep the campus green, clean and environment-friendly on November 16, 2021. The deliberations were done to decide the future course of action.

  • Carrying forward the cause of Energy Management, under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, the Energy Management Team of the Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) committee, placed awareness banner in the college campus on November 16, 2021 to inform students about the ways to save energy
  • Sangrand was celebrated in the college campus on November 16, 2021.
  • Sanitation and Hygiene committee  under Swachhta Action Plan Committee (SAP), formed a “Hygiene Squad” on November 15,  2021 in which more than 30 students were enrolled. Members of the squad were assigned duties for ensuring clean and safe environment in the college premises.

  • The college campus was the venue for NDA Examination 2021 on November 14, 2021. Madam Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon was the College Co-ordinating Supervisor and Mrs. Manmeet Kaur was the Supervisor for the examination.
  • In order to mark Children’s Day, the college decided to conduct facilities management and updation  to provide the best environment to the students. A treat was also organized for the hostel inmates on the occasion.(November 13, 2021)
  • Waste Management Team (SAP) of the college under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, and Department of Fine arts has collected waste plastic and glass bottles. Students have painted and decorated the waste bottles in an artistic way. These bottles have been used for plantation to enhance the beautification of the college. These planters have been placed on the college campus. (November 13, 2021).

  • Energy management Team(SAP) of College under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has been in constant action for locating and stopping wastage of energy on November 13, 2021. Under this, service of generator was carried out in college. Generator was cleaned, its oil and filter were changed.

  • Mrs. Manmeet Kaur, who has been appointed as the Supervisor by MC (Ludhiana) for the conduct of NDA Exam, attended the meeting held at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana on November 11, 2021.

  • Swachhta Action Plan Committee has been working with full zeal to check any leaking pipes in the campus on November 11, 2021. It took another step in the direction of water conservation and energy management by replacing a water inlet pipe attached to an IFB washing machine.
  • Swachhta Action Plan Committee in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell of college constituted Swachhta Police to maintain the cleanliness of the campus on November 11, 2021. Principal Dr Maneeta Kahlon asserted that realizing its responsibility in ensuring a sustainable development, the institution is making determined efforts to contribute to varied dimension of swachhta including environmental conservation, waste management, energy conservation and much more.

  • Under the guidance of Waste Management Team coordinators, Dr. Balbir Kaur and Mrs. Rajwinder Kaur, the junk stationery/ paper, folders, and cartons were collected for reuse and recycling. Later, under the guidance of Mrs. Harpreet Kaur (Department of Fine Arts), the students of Fine Arts recycled these items as various forms like tables, chairs, pen stands, vase, photo frames and human figures. Proper waste management and recycling have health and economic benefits and also help in protecting the environment. (November 08, 2021)

  • SAP committee of the college under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India has been working with full devotion and are in the process of putting a halt to water seepage. In order to accomplish the task,  two wash basins fitted outside the Department of Home Science  were removed. (November 03, 2021)
  • Energy Management Team of Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) committee of the college, under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, organized an orientation lecture for the students on November 02, 2021. This lecture was organized under the guidance of Energy Management committee coordinators, Mrs. Surjit Kaur and Dr. Shikha Bajaj. Under this, students were sensitized about various methods of energy saving in college and at home. Students also shared their views on energy saving with the help of a PowerPoint presentation.
  • As a part of “Roshni”, the Annual Diwali programme of the college, a Poster-making competition was organized by Sanitation and Hygiene Team, Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee under Ministry of Education, Government of India on November 01, 2021. The objective of this competition was to sensitize students about maintaining high hygiene standards. The theme of the competition was “Clean India, Green India and Supreme India”. 

Activities for the Month of October 2021

  • A lunch get-together was organized by the Staff Welfare Society on October 30, 2021 to celebrate the birthdays of the teachers which fall in the month of October . Token of love were given to the following teachers: Mrs. Maninder Kaur, Ms Jaswinder Kaur, Ms Gursimran from Department of Business Management and Commerce, Dr. Anupam Vatsyayan and Ms. Jaspreet Kaur from Department of English, and Ms. Daisy Wadhwa from Department of Computer Science and Applications. Tokens were also given to supporting staff: Dilip, Anant Kumar Yadav, Vipin and Amit. Staff secretaries, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur and Mrs. Punpreet Kaur, organized the event.

  • Under the aegis of IQAC, An interactive session in the 7th lecture was organized by the Mentoring Group and College Buddy’s Group on October 30, 2021. During the Meet all the teachers with respective groups of students, discussed  the importance of sanitation and hygiene. Moral values were also discussed and everyone was encouraged to buy and avoid unnecessary costly things on Diwali. Integrity Pledge was taken to sensitize students against the menace of corruption  under Vigilance Awareness Week 2021 ( 24 th October-1st November). The activity was conducted under the supervision of Dr Madhu Dhawan (coordinator) and Mrs Punpreet.
  • Volunteers under the Energy management Team (SAP Committee) in collaboration with IQAC started  preparations of DIWALI by cleaning and decorating Gurudwara Sahib in order to seek the blessings of Almighty God. Energy consuming lights were replaced by LED light for saving energy. Electricity repair work was also undertaken (October 25-28, 2021).  A rally was organized to sensitize and encourage people to celebrate pollution free Diwali and to buy and use earthen diyas on October 30, 2021. Students made creative posters carrying influencing messages, for spreading awareness in and around campus for using natural and eco friendly items. Principal Dr Maneeta Kahlon led the rally, followed by teachers and students. She appreciated the efforts of students and motivated everyone for celebrating green Diwali.

  • Under IQAC, Students Parliament for the session 2021-22 was formed on October 28, 2021. Fifty members were elected from different classes who took an oath to perform all responsibilities entrusted upon them with full dedication.. Damanpreet Kaur Grewal from BCA Department and Komal from Humanities Group were selected as Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl respectively. An oath taking ceremony was performed by the members. 
  • Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college conducted a Sensitization Drive  under Vigilance Awareness Week on October 28, 2021 to make the students aware about making  integrity a way of life. They were advised not to give costly gifts on Diwali festival and to help drive away corruption. This activity was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Neetu, Mrs. Punpreet and Dr.Nidhi.
  • IQAC in collaboration with SAP Committee and NCC Unit of the college,Vigilance Awareness Week was observed (October 26-Novemver 1, 2021) by  organizing various activities in the college campus. It began with a Swachhata Pledge Ceremony. The students, led by the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, took a pledge to work towards the cause of swachhta as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi. The students pledged to keep their surroundings clean to contribute their part towards the Clean India Campaign. They also promised to sensitize and encourage hundred more persons to spread this message. A motivational talk was delivered by Dr. Parveen Arora, SAP Nodal Officer to reaffirm faith in cleanliness. In an endeavor towards “Independent India 75: Self Reliance with Integrity,” 1210 students, 52 faculty and 9 non-teaching members of the college took an e-Integrity pledge. As responsible citizens, they promised to contribute  towards weeding out corruption and unethical practices. This activity was conducted by Dr. Neetu Prakash, Mrs. Punpreet Kaur, and Dr. Nidhi.
  • Water management Team organized a drive on October 27, 2021 to clean water filters to ensure that clean and safe drinking water is available to students in the college campus . The list of Aqua guard water filters located in different corners of the college campus were numbered and their AMC and service was also completed.
  • Under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, the SAP Committee is making great efforts to conserve water. Water reservoir cleanliness and maintenance drive was organised by the Water management Team (Swachhta Action Plan committee) in which emptying the tank, cleaning of silt, dirt and algae, and maintenance of pump was performed under the guidance of Water Management Coordinators Dr. Kuldeep Kaur and Mrs Shikha Kalra. Covering the water tank grill with net, connecting pipes, foot valves, and cleaning and painting of the floating ball valves were a part of the drive.  The main objective of this water cleanliness and Maintenance Drive was to ensure proper utilization of water reservoirs for watering garden areas and cleaning the rooms.(October 26, 2021)
  • Water Management Team (Swachhta Action Plan Committee)  under MGNCRE, Ministry of Education, Government of India, is making great effort to conserve water. All water coolers of the college have been regularly maintained to ensure clean drinking water and drainage pipes are attached so that not even a single drop of water will be wasted during drinking water. The waste water pipes are directly connected to the green areas of the college and the sewerage points to ensure zero  wastage of water.(October 25, 2021)   

  • Birth Anniversary of Guru Ram Das ji  was celebrated with full fervor on October 22, 2021 in the college campus. The event started with prayers of Shri Japji Sahib Ji  and Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Ardaas. Mrs. Manmeet Kaur highlighted the importance of this day.

  • Members of ABVP (Akhil Bhartiaya Vidyarthi Parishad), a nationwide student organisation, addressed the  students about the noteworthy contributions made by the great revolutionary hero’ Sardar Bhagat Singh ji, who played a significant role during India’s struggle for independence on October 21, 2021. In the course of the talk, the students were motivated to follow the footsteps of great leaders like Bhagat Singh and serve their nation.
  • Talent Hunt competitions for literary items  like Handwriting, Creative Writing (poem, essay, story), Poem Recitation, and Debate were held for students of all the streams on October 21, 2021. 65 students participated in Handwriting competition, 39 entries were received in Creative Writing Competition, 9 students contested in Poem Recitation Competition, and 9 participated in debate .
  • Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Red Ribbon Club, NSS Unit and SAP Committee of the college in collaboration with UPHC, Model Town (Medical Officer Dr. Gurpreet, Sister Poonam and Sister Sarabjeet)  organized its 2nd Free Mega Covid Vaccination Camp in the college campus on October 21, 2021. As many as 500 doses were administered to students, Teaching & Non-teaching Staff, and localites. Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, expressed her gratitude to SMO Dr. Avinash Jindal and the medical team who carried out this mega drive in a very successful manner.
  • The water tanks of the college were cleaned as a part of the Water Audit for SAP on October 19, 2021. The college has 8 water tanks. The capacity of 3 tanks is 500 litres and of 5 tanks is 1000 litres. This will help in proper conservation of water and is a prerequisite to maintain a hygienic environment.

  • A team of officials from Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, in Government of India visited the college campus on October 19, 2021 to assess the institution under Swachhta Action Plan Project. Mr. Samarth Sharma and Mr. Ajay Desai inspected the college on five parameters, namely, Greenery, Solid Waste Management, Sanitation & Hygiene, Water Management, and Energy management. The inspection was performed under the guidance of the college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and the coordinator of Swachhta Action Plan committee, Dr. Praveen Arora.

  • A Freshers Party was organized in the college to welcome the first year students of all streams on October 16, 2021. The function was presided over by chief guest Mrs. Abhineet Kaur Sarna. The members of the management and other esteemed guests were also present on the occasion. The seniors extended a warm welcome to the newcomers with great zeal and enthusiasm. The newcomers were introduced through Catwalk on the ramp.  Ms. Mehak Jain (Journalist, Times of India), Ms. Monica Dhall (Image Consultant, Espoir Institute)  and Ms. Jasdeep Lotey (Makeup Artist)  were the judges for Ms. Fresher Contest. Over 47 girls put the stage on fire with their ramp walk. The foot-tapping music, the flash lights along with the excitement and high spirits of the youngsters made the party unbridled and exuberant. The students also exhibited their talent in the form of choreographed dance performances.

  • A Tea party was organized for the hostellers on the occasion of Dussehra festival on October 15, 2021. Madam Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon and the Hostel Warden Ms. Kulwant Kaur joined the hostellers, thereby adding yet another experience to the valuable memories which the students are making in the college hostel.

  • ‘Global Handwashing Day’ was celebrated  on the theme “Our Future is at HAND – Let’s Move Forward Together 2021” on October 15, 2021. On this occasion, students made Powerpoint presentations to increase awareness and understanding the importance of  handwashing with soap and water. This activity was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Parveen Arora (Co-ordinator, SAP Committee).
  • An inter- class Slogan Writing Competition was organized by the Energy Management Committee  (SAP Committee) on October 13, 2021. Students wrote slogans on the theme of energy conservation and presented them in the form of posters.
  • The staff congratulated Ms. Kavleen Kaur on her marriage and, in her absence, the shagun was handed over to Mrs. Maninder Kaur (Head, Department of Business Management and Commerce) and Mrs. Manmeet Kaur (Senior member of the faculty) on October 13, 2021 by Staff Welfare Society.
  • A Quiz Competition was organized by Sehaj Path Society in collaboration with IQAC to mark the 400th Birth Anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on October 13, 2021.  Dr. Balbir Kaur helped in the successful conduct of this event. S.Jaswinder Singh,  a renowned U.K. based philanthropist, graced the occasion with his presence. He addressed the audience on the topic “Guru Granth Sahib ji and its implications in life”. Senchies of the Holy book were presented to all those students who were ascertained to do Sehaj Path. The event witnessed an overwhelming participation of 180 students. The day concluded with a Prize-giving Ceremony in which the winners of various Talent Hunt Competitions held in the college from October 07-12, 2021 were awarded by S. Jaswinder Singh.

  • A Cleanliness Drive was organized by all the Departments of the college in collaboration with SAP Committee to spread awareness among the students on October 12, 2021.
  • The Greenery Management sub-committee of Swachhta Action Plan (SAP) Committee and the Eco club of the college organised a Poster-making competition and established a herbal garden in the college campus on October 12, 2021. The teachers in-charge working under SAP coordinator Dr. Parveen Arora were: Mrs. Gaganeetpal Kaur, Mrs. Harpreet Kaur, Mrs. Inderjit Kaur, Ms. Anju Kapoor, Ms. Shalini.

    The gardeners involved in setting up the herbal garden were Mr. Subhash, Mr. Amit and Mr. Nitin.

    A poster-making competition was also organized on this occasion by members of Greenery Management Team and Water Management Team.

  • To mark “International Girl Child Day”  in the college, eminent personalities like Rtn. Sunil Budhiraja (President), Rtn. Attiv Ralli (Project Director), Rtn. Rajan Kapur (Convener) and Rtn. Angad Kehr (Executive Board Member) visited the college for a face-to-face interaction with the students on October 11, 2021. This event was successfully conducted by Dr. Nidhi, Mrs. Punpreet, Mrs. Kirti and Ms. Daisy keeping in mind the theme “Digital generation: Our generation”Various departments of the college organized a number of unique activities to commemorate this special day. To enhance the culture of personality development among the students, an Effective Public Speaking Session was conducted by CA Jasminder Singh from Rotary Club. The Department of Mass Communication shared the stories of those students who are Tech Trailblazers advancing through social platforms while the Department of Computer Science and Applications had a discussion on their Digital initiatives during  Covid 19 Lockdown. 

  • The college was used as one of the venues for UPSC Prelim Examination 2021 on October 10, 2021. Madam Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon was the College Co-ordinating Supervisor and Mrs. Manmeet Kaur was the Supervisor for the examination, whereas Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur and Dr. Kuldeep Kaur were the  Assistant Supervisors.
  • Hostel night  was held on October 09, 2021 for the Hostellers. The event was organized under the aegis of IQAC to welcome the hostellers back into the campus after the pandemic.The students were introduced through Catwalk on the ramp. Dr. Kuldeep, Dr. Balbir and Mrs. Punpreet were the judges for the event and Ms. Kulwant Dhaliwal(Hostel Wardan) helped in successful conduct of this activity.Over 31 girls put the stage on fire with their ramp walk. The foot-tapping music, the flash lights along with the excitement and high spirits of the youngsters made the party unbridled and exuberant. The students also exhibited their talent in form of choreographed dance performances.
  • One week Book Fair was held to encourage circulation of books among the needy students From October 08-15, 2021. Book Counters were set up outside the library where students could leave their old books to be picked and used by others. It was a convenient method to provide aid to the students belonging to the underprivileged class. This hassle-free and a no-formality endeavor saw tremendous response and was an instant success. The Book Bank Facility is a perennial attribute of the library which is available all the year through.
  • Talent Hunt Competition was organised in the college to provide students a platform to showcase their creativity and style in various items of Music, Home Science and Fine Arts from October 07-09, 2021
    Day 1: Young Artists participated in Music items.
    Day-2: Mehandi competition was organized by the Department of Home Science in which 80 students from different streams participated.
    Day 3: Rangoli making competition by the Department of Fine Arts.

  • IQAC in collaboration with SAP, Eco Club and NSS Unit  initiated a noble attempt to manage the waste and reduce the carbon footprint by establishing composting unit on October 07, 2021. This composting unit will utilize the waste generated in the college premises in the form of garbage, leaves, organic wastage to convert it into fertilizer that will be used for fertilizing the plants and nursery. Programme Officers of SAP Green Committee Dr. Balbir Kaur, Dr. Parveen Arora and Mrs. Gagneet Pal Kaur, as well as Dr. Neetu Prakash and Ms. Satwant Kaur from NSS Unit along with volunteers also participated in this event under the Clean India Programme initiated by the Government of India held from October 1 – 31, 2021. The eminent resource person was Dr Karanbir Singh Gill, Scientist, Punjab Agricultural University. On this occasion, Er. Gurvinder Singh, General Secretary of the college Governing Body planted a mango sapling in the college ground.
  • Staff Welfare Society of the college congratulated Mr. Raj Kumar Class IV Employee on occassion of his daughter’s marriage . He was also presented a gift token on October 07, 2021.
  • IQAC and NSS Unit  in  collaboration with SAP organized an online workshop on “Waste Management” on October 06, 2021.  Volunteers and Programme Officers of NSS Unit Dr. Neetu Prakash (Dept. of Business Mgmt & Commerce) and Ms. Satwant Kaur (Dept. of Computer Science & Applications) also participated in this event under the Clean India Programme initiated by the Ministry Of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India held from October 1 – 31, 2021. The resource person was Ms. Priti Rao, a Bengaluru based eco-entrepreneur. She is the founder of “Soil and Soul”, an organization that is engaged in bringing awareness about sustainability.  Dr. Balbir Kaur, college Librarian and the coordinator of the Waste management committee introduced the theme of the workshop which was to educate students and provide them with an understanding of waste management issues and the best practices for waste management. Mr. Jatinder Singh Manchanda from the Sambhav Foundation and Ms. Nikita from “Women on Wings” organization shared real life examples on how to deal with waste in colleges, at public places, and while travelling.
  • The Principal, Faculty, and Hostellers of the college took the Swachhta Pledge on occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October  02, 2021. Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur (Asst. Professor, Dept of Hindi) administered the oath. The purpose of this event was to create awareness about cleanliness. Dr. Parveen Arora (Co-ordinator, SAP Committee) helped in smooth conduct of this activity.
  • IQAC and Staff Welfare Society of the college conducted a Staff Meeting on September 30, 2021. Activities were planned for the coming month. it was followed by Staff Lunch.
  • Tutorial Meet in form of  an Open Interaction was conducted during the 7th Lecture on September 30, 2021. The students attended this session after a long gap imposed by the Covid-19 situation and shared their views with the teachers. Teachers in-charge of the Mentoring Group Dr. Madhu Bala (Coordinator) and Mrs. Manpreet Kaur (Co-cordinator) ensured the smooth conduct of the meet.
  • The Directorate of Youth Services Punjab organized District level Competitions of Red Ribbon Clubs at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town on September 28, 2021. On this occasion, Dr. Avinash Jindal, Senior Medical Officer, Ludhiana was the Chief Guest while Er. Gurvinder Singh, General Secretary of the college was the Guest of Honour. These activities were organized to make youth aware about the ill effects of drugs, awareness about HIV Aids, TB and Blood Donation. The competitions were held in three different areas – Poster Making, Slogan Writing and Quiz Competition. A number of participants from colleges in and around Ludhiana participated in the competitions. Dr. Nidhi and Ms. Daisy Wadhwa (Incharge, Youth Club & Red Ribbon Club, GNKCW) helped in successful conduct of this event.
  • The Election of Registered Graduate Constituency of Senate of Panjab University, Chandigarh was held on September 26, 2021. Our college was  one of the 44 Booths where graduates of Panjab University came to cast their votes.
  • IQAC in collaboration with College Buddy Group organized training session for the faculty members in the college campus on September 21, 2021.  Dr. Harblas Heera, District Trainer from SCD Government College Ludhiana was the resource person on this occasion. He highlighted the significance of Buddy Groups in colleges and interacted with the teachers on the same. He emphasized on sharing, communication, decision making and empathy with the students so that they can come up with their intense thoughts and problems in their respective groups. Dr. Parveen Arora, Nodal Officer of the College Buddy Group gave away a brief introduction and welcomed the resource person while Dr. Madhu Bala, Assistant Nodal Officer extended a vote of thanks.
  • An Online workshop was conducted by Swachhta Action Project at the behest of Ministry of Education, Govt. of India on September 17, 2021 . The workshop was attended by the SAP committee members in the seminar hall of the college under the leadership of the college principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Samrath Sharma, Consultant, Ministry of Education, Government of India. He explained the various elements that contribute towards the establishment of a SWACHH CAMPUS including, green campus, water conservation, rain water harvesting, sanitization, waste management, energy saving sources, and medicinal plants. He also emphasised on the role of teaching and non-teaching faculty, students, and class IV employees in making a campus clean and green.
  • Sangrand was celebrated with full fervor at College Campus on September 16, 2021. The event started with prayers of Shri Japji Sahib Ji  and Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Ardaas. Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur, HOD, Punjabi Department highlighted the importance of this day.
  • Today was Mr Charanjit – Head clerk (Non-Teaching Deptt ) birthday so on behalf of the staff he was gifted a small potted plant and best wishes conveyed for a healthy and happy life.

  • A one-week Faculty Development Program (FDP) ‘Spark your basic computing skills’ was conducted for the Teaching and the Non-Teaching staff of the Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana from September 6-11, 2021. Under the aegis of IQAC, the FDP was conducted by the Department of Computer Science and Applications of the college under the stewardship of Ms. Daisy Wadhwa, Head of the Department. The sessions were conducted  by Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor of the department. The FDP was designed to include interactive explanatory sessions followed by practical hands-on sessions. It included sessions on basic computer usage, email management, spreadsheet handling, and Google Form creation. A total of 39 participants attended the FDP who were awarded certificates on completion of all the activities.

  • ‘Parkash Purab’of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, was celebrated with full fervor at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town on September 07, 2021. The event started with prayers of Shri Chaupai Sahib Ji followed by Kirtan and Ardaas. The students of the Department of Music embalmed and enthralled the audience into soulful rhythms with the holy verses from Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
  • Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women, Gujarkhan Campus, Model Town, Ludhiana celebrated Teacher’s Day in the campus  on September 04, 2021. On this occasion, a cake cutting ceremony followed by lunch was arranged for the faculty members. Music department of the college gave a melodious performance.
