Activities December 2021

  • Department of Economics Under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)  organized an online interactive talk to mark “National Consumer Day” on December 24, 2021.

    Mrs. Seema Dua, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics was the resource person. She informed the students about consumer rights and responsibilities. Highlighting the theme of the day, ‘Tackle Plastic Pollution’, the students were apprised of the dangers of plastic pollution and the ways of handling them. The college Principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon, urged the students to become informed consumers. She also stressed that it is a pressing need to eliminate the use of plastics.

       

  • Department of Sociology Under the Aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell celebrated “International Human Rights Day” on December 10, 2021. Dr. Madhu Dhawan (Assistant Professor) made the students aware about the relevance of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and its inception in 1948. She also explained the social, cultural and political rights which have been covered in UDHR.  On this occasion, students of BA-2nd year also recited poems on gender equality. College principal, Dr. Maneeta Kahlon outlined theme of UDHR -2021 “Reducing Inequality and Advancing Human Rights” and encouraged the students to respect human rights and live a dignified life.

 

  • The Department of Music conducted a musical instrument maintenance drive. A clean and well-maintained instrument sounds better and plays better. As a result, you sound and play better, so quite naturally you are inspired to play more. With this objective in mind, All the musical instruments were cleaned and fine-tuned to keep them in good working condition. (December 06, 2021)

 

  • Internal Quality Assurance Cell in collaboration with  Department of Psychology organized an Interactive Session on “Stress Management: Nourishing Minds for Flourished Lives” for students of BA  on December 06, 2021. Ms. Arpuneet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology was the resource person. During the session she focused on various techniques like Meditation, Affirmations, Breathing Exercises, Positive thinking and Diet Regulation.  It was followed by demonstration of the tools to manage stress effectively.

   

Activities November 2021

  • ‘Mind Tree’ – The Psychology Club of the college submitted its monthly report of the Counseling Cell to Madam Principal on November 29, 2021. It is a student support service to promote mental wellness amongst the students. This cell has been functioning from the beginning of the 2021-22 session. The teacher incharge Ms. Arpuneet Kaur along with the student mentors have successfully created a nurturing space for students to share their problems ranging from academics to personal issues.

 

 

 

 

 

  • Indian Constitution Day Celebrated  

Under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college,  Department of Public administration & Political Science celebrated 72nd Constitution Day in the college campus on November 26, 2021.  This day is being celebrated to commemorate the adoption of Constitution of India. A live session from Central Hall, Parliament House, Delhi was attended collectively by Principal, Faculty members and students of the college through virtual mode. It was followed by reading Preamble of the constitution of India and recitation of National Anthem by all. Dr Parveen Arora made the students aware about the significance of the constitution. Lt.Sukhjit Kaur also highlighted the guiding principles of the Constitution.

   

 

  • International day on Elimination of violence against Women celebrated at GNKCW

    Under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college, Department of Sociology observed International day on elimination of violence against women in the college campus on November 25, 2021. An interactive talk was delivered by Dr. Madhu Dhawan, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology. She discussed about challenges and problems of women in contemporary society. She also made students aware about international tool CEDAW and Indian constitutional safeguards and provisions for eradicating violence against women. Various activities like poster making, poem recitation and slogan writing were organized in which students of different streams participated actively.

  • Department of Sociology  organized a lecture as a part of 75th- Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Dr. Madhu Dhawan, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, on the occasion of 93rd  Death Anniversary of  Lala Lajpat Rai, enlightened the students about the life and sacrifices of the great legend who fought bravely till his last breath to liberate India from British Empire. (November 17, 2021)

  • Under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college,  Department of Journalism and Mass Communication celebrated “National Press Day” in the college campus on November 16, 2021. Mr. Amarpreet Singh Makkar, Founder and owner of Ludhiana Times was the chief guest. Harsh Kaur, a student of PGDMC apprised the audience about the importance of this day. It was followed by an interactive session with the chief guest. Mr. Makkar talked about the Role of Media as a fourth pillar of Democracy in the present times. This event was conducted under the supervision of Ms. Kirti Loomba, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

  •  Department of History of the college  organized a lecture as a part of 75th- Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on November 16, 2021. Mrs. Sandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of History, on the occasion of 106th Death Anniversary of  S. Kartar Singh Sarabha, enlightened the students about the life and sacrifices of S. Kartar Singh Sarabha.

  • Department of Office Management & Secretarial Practices organized a Typing speed competition. This event was conducted under the guidance of Mrs. Surjit Kaur and Ms. Rachna Kanojia on 15th November 2021. Following students won prizes:First Prize- Manmeet Kaur (BA 3rd Semester)Second Prize- Khushi (BA 3rd Semester)Third Prize- Gurleen Kaur (BA 3rd Semester)

    Consolation Prize- Surbhi (BA 5th Semester)

  • Department of Political Science of the college attended a webinar on “Punjab Assembly Elections Gyan” on November 10, 2021.  The webinar was conducted with the aim to provide practical knowledge regarding the process of conduct of Assembly Elections with specific reference to the upcoming Punjab elections. Mrs. Sukhjit Kaur, Assistant Professor in Political Science, was invited as a panelist for the webinar.

  • Department of Journalism & Mass Communication organized a photography contest on the theme, “Green Diwali” on November 02, 2021. Manmehar Kaur, Bhawna and Deepnayan won the prizes for best photographs.

 

  • The PG Department of English, under the aegis of IQAC, celebrated National Author’s Day on November 01, 2021. The event began with students reading Appreciation Notes which they wrote to their favorite author. The idea was to recognize the contribution of authors and to express gratitude to them for making world a better place. After that, a poetry reading session was held in which students read out self composed poems as well as poems by other authors. On this occasion, Dr. Anupam Vatsyayan (Head, Department of English) acquainted the students about the history and significance of National Author’s Day.The highlight of the event was the book launch of Sanjana Bhanot, student of M.A (English) Semester III. Her book “How to be a Successful Writer” (Vol. 1) is her maiden attempt in which she has apprised readers about easy steps to become writers. The book was successfully launched by Madam Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon who said that all students have potential which should be explored and recognized in order to attain success. On November 02, 2021 the book was officially released by the General Secretary of College Governing Body, Er. Gurwinder Singh Sarna who congratulated the budding writer, Sanjana Bhanot, on her achievement. Sanjana added that the second volume of the book will come out shortly.

         

Activities October 2021

  • Under IQAC, a motivational talk was organized by the Department of Sociology on the topic  “Declutter your mind – a key to blissful Diwali” on October 28, 2021. Dr. Madhu Bala talked about mental cleanliness in the wake of the forthcoming festival of Diwali. She shared useful ways to deal with mental health issues and urged the students to improve the balance with technology use in their lives by adopting digital detox.  Gurkiran kaur and Harmanpreet kaur of BA Second Year participated during the talk and gave tips for celebrating Green Diwali.

  • As a part of “Roshni,” the Annual Diwali program of the college, the Department of English conducted informal interactive session on October 26, 2021  between teachers and students, encouraging them to celebrate Diwali with minimum damage to the environment. Many alarming issues were raised and suggestions were made, like to limit use of firecrackers that emit enormous smoke and sound and to select eco-friendly gifts and decorating items. Madam Principal Dr. Maneeta Kahlon also shared her concerns about the environment and pointed out that the contribution of each and every individual is mandatory to win this battle against a common, formidable enemy i.e. ever-increasing pollution. The second session was conducted on October 30, 2021 and an e-banner was also circulated on the theme of “Minimizing Pollution and Maximizing Happiness.” The activity was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Anupam Vatsyayan, Head, PG Department of English.

  • Department of Social Sciences in collaboration with IQAC organized a Seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights: An Overview” on October 26, 2021 . Dr. Parveen Arora and Mrs. Seema Dua helped in the successful conduct of this lecture. Dr. Mohd. Salim Head, PG Department of Economics (Kamla Lohtia SD College, Ludhiana) was the resource person. During the session he emphasized on the significance of IPR in the social and economic growth of a country and also made the students aware about various concepts related to IPR like Trade mark, Copyright, Patents etc.  It was followed by an interactive session in which the speaker answered the queries of the students. The stage was conducted by Dr. Madhu Dhawan.

  • The Department of Sociology celebrated “World Student Day” on October 15, 2021 to commemorate the birth anniversary of former president Dr. A. P. J. Abdul KalamDr  Madhu Dhawan (Assistant Professor, Sociology) addressed the students and made them aware of  the significant contributions made by this great teacher, scientist and human being.

  • A Talent Hunt was organized by the Department of Home Science on October 12, 2021 keeping in mind the forthcoming Youth Festival. Such Talent Hunts, while providing a platform to the students to showcase their talent(s), facilitate the selection procedure for Youth Festival entries. In this talent contest, students exhibited their skills in   Phulkari, Knitting, Dasuti, and Crochet. 10 students participated in the talent hunt of these skilled items.

  • Under the aegis of IQAC, The Department of Fashion Designing organized a Webinar on “Fashion Designing: A career choice” on October 07, 2021. Dr. Pooja ( Assistant Professor, Nandlal Bose College of Fine Arts and Fashion Design, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut)  was the resource person. Dr. Shikha Bajaj, Assistant Professor in Fashion Designing, welcomed the speaker and introduced her with activities as well as working of the Department. She informed the students about various career choices available in the field of Fashion Designing.

 

  • Movie based on William Shakespeare’s  Othello was screened for the students of M.A(Eng), English Hons. as well as B.A-III (Elec. Eng.)  on October 01, 2021. Since the play Othello is a prescribed text in the syllabus the movie screening helped the students in comprehending the nuances of the play.

  • Sahej Path Sanstha in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Department of Punjabi  organized an extension lecture on Guru Granth Sahib Ji ate Shaksiyat Usari” in the college campus October 01, 2021. Satnam Singh Salhopuri, was the resource person on this occasion. He talked about the importance of Gurbani in the personality development of an individual.. The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which he answered the queries of the audience. The stage was conducted by Mrs. Inderjeet Kaur (Asstt. Prof., Dept of Punjabi). Mrs Prabhjot Kaur, Head of the Department extended a vote of thanks.

 

  • Internal Quality Assurance Cell and Department of Punjabi organized an extension lecture on The Philosophical Teachings of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji” dedicated to the 400th anniversary of Guru Sahib in the college campus today.Dr. Sarabjot Kaur, Ex-Professor, was the resource person on this occasion. She talked about the teachings and life of Guru Teg Bahadur ji. The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which she answered the queries of the audience. The stage was conducted by Mrs. Seema Devi (Asstt. Prof., Dept of Punjabi). Mrs Prabhjot Kaur, Head of the Department extended a vote of thanks.

           

  • Internal Quality Assurance Cell of college in collaboration of Department of Home Science and Department of Fine Arts organized a one-day Home Science & Fine Arts Workshop on “Best out of waste” on September 22, 2021 in the college campus. Mr. Narinder Rai from Vidya Mandir Social Work Art’s Training Institute, New Delhi was the Resource Person on the occasion. He gave demonstration on creative art skills in paper craft to the students. He made different ornamental items with the help of paper craft. This workshop was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Balbir Kaur (Incharge, Waste Management), Ms. Harpreet Kaur (Head, Dept of Fine Arts) and Ms. Shikha Kalra (Head, Dept. of Home Science).

 

  • IQAC in collaboration with Department of Journalism and Mass Communication  organized a Visit to Punjabi Hits and Living India News Channel, Chandigarh on September 22, 2021.The students interacted with the technical staff of both the organizations. They learned about the process of telecasting News Show and Music Videos on TV as well as interviewing different personalities for TV. During their visit, an interactive session with Mr. Tahir Ahmad, Channel Head, Punjabi Hits, was also conducted.He apprised the students about various career options in the field of journalism and mass communication. Queries of the students were answered in a very effective and easy way. The students were accompanied by Mrs. Kirti Loomba (Head, Dept of JMC and Ms. Collin (Asstt. Prof., Dept. of JMC).

 

  • Students of Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication (PGDMC) along with Ms. Collin (Asstt Prof. Dept of JMC) attended a seminar on the Topic “Challenges to the Journalism in Present Days organised by Punjab & Chandigrah Journalists Union(Ludhiana) on September 18, 2021 at Guru Nanak Dev Bhawan, Ldh. 
    • Hindi Sahitya Sabha  celebrated “Hindi Diwas” in the college campus today. A number of activities were organized including slogan writing, poem recitation, dance performance, calligraphy, mime etc. Many alumni of the Department of Hindi also came for the event and actively participated in the activities. While addressing the students, Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur, Head of Hindi Department, emphasized on the importance of Hindi Diwas as well as the contemporary importance of the day celebrations.
    • Department of Fine Arts organised Inter class Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition on July 13, 2020 on the theme-Covid-19.
    • Department of Fine Arts organised Inter class Poster Making Competition on July 27,2020. The theme for the competition was 400th Birth anniversary of Shri Guru Teg Bhadur ji.
    • Department of Hindi celebrated Hindi Diwas on September 14, 2020 by organizing various competition on virtual media. The competitions included Calligraphy, Slogan Writing and Poem Recitation.
    • Department of Fine Arts organised Poster Making and Slogan Writing competitions on the theme “World Heart Day” on September 29, 2020.
    • Department of Psychology organized an activity based extension lecture on “Fostering Positive Mental Health and a Strong Heart” on September 29, 2020. On this occasion Dr. Nayanika Singh was the resource person.
    • Department of Punjabi organized Calligraphy Competition on November 5, 2020.
    • Department of Punjabi organized an Essay Writing Competition on the topic Importance of Punjabi Language on November 11, 2020.
    • Department of Fashion Designing organized Inter Class Competition named ‘Thematic Designing of Fashion Figure’ on 12.11.20.
    • The Post Graduate Department of English organized a 3-Day Online Training workshop on “3 T’s of Translation: Training Technique Tales” from June 09-11, 2021. Dr. Rana Nayyar, Retired Professor, Deptt of English & Cultural Studies, PU, Chandigarh, Dr. Navjot Deol, Assistant Prof. Apeejay College, Jalandhar and Dr. Sakoon Singh, Assistant Prof. DAV, Sec-10, Chandigarh were the resource persons for this workshop.
