Master of Arts (English)

The PG Department of English is one of the oldest centers for edification of Literature in the city Ludhiana, with its inception in the session 1979-80. Being one of the first to initiate Master’s degree (M.A. English) in and around the city, the PG Department of English at our college boasts of dynamism and a comprehensive approach towards knowledge sharing. Proficient faculty and neoteric stratagem of the PG department have majorly contributed towards achieving a position of distinction in academics over the years.

The MA English Literature Program enhances the interpretative and expressive skills of students in an intellectual environment that is stimulating and nurturing. It equips students with both – a rigorous knowledge of the subject as well as a critical and analytical ability. The syllabus has been designed in a way that provides an engagement with issues as varied as identity formation, race relations, gender stereotypes, ethnicity, and politics of language, while focusing on Inter-disciplinary approach.

About The Course

The two year post-graduate program in English (M.A. English) is divided into four semesters. The syllabus (as prescribed by Panjab University, Chandigarh) in each semester introduces the students to literary study and focuses on critical techniques, approaches, and debates to provide the students with the basic tools for research and analysis.

Eligibility for M.A. (English)

  • 50% marks in aggregate in B.A/B.Sc./B.Com. or Honours in English Literature or at least 45% marks in Elective English

 OR

  • Passed B.Ed.

OR

  • M.A. in any other subject
